The Rosehip Community Craft Shop
Open every Friday 12h00 - 15h00
A healthy vegetarian lunch is on offer every Friday, or you can come and enjoy an organic cup of tea or coffee together with whatever home-bakes are on offer.
Balls of hemp and “Recorder Bag Cotton” in beautiful colours; wooden toys and gifts; a wide assortment of craft materials such as felt, roving, buttons, beads, embroidery thread, pure wool stuffing; fascinating book titles to suit all tastes; the Beating Drum, current and back issues (a Waldorf-related bi-annual magazine).
We are pleased to announce that the Rosehip has finally re-located to its own venue! During December, we had a beautiful wooden cabin with a verandah built for us by GR Cabins; this is situated in the garden next to the creche, has ample parking right on the doorstep and can also be reached from the Playgroup side by way of a garden path and wooden gate.
We are still in the planning stages for installing electricity and plumbing, and a small cabin for the toilets will also be going up shortly; there are lots of plans in the pipe line for a tea garden and playing area to be established too.
BACKGROUND TO THIS PROJECT
The intention of this project is to make quality toys, craft materials, books, and school supplies available to the Roseway Community; over and above this, our intention is to provide a base for community building, for people to come and spend quality time either browsing in the shop or enjoying a cup of tea.
The community shop is an initiative of the school and was first suggested in April 2009, by the Kindergarten teachers, who had an available classroom. The existing craft circle was approached to take on the project and a working group was established.
The grand opening was held on the 19th of June 2009 and since then the shop has been going from strength to strength.
